Hello all! Today is February 19, 2022, and a light flurry of snow drifts down outside my window, casting the world in white and sending a pale light into my living room. A few personal updates before I get to the good stuff; firstly, I have an interview today at an essential oil boutique, which, given my regular use of oils in my practice, would be a really excellent place to work. Wish me luck! Secondly, over the last week or so, I've been working on hand-embroidering my own altar cloth; I've always felt that making one's own tools for the craft makes them that much more powerful than simply buying them ready made. In any case, I finished it yesterday, and I am simply thrilled with the results:

The four designs at the top and bottom are the four tarot suits, contained in the alchemical symbol of their corresponding element. So, left to right, top to bottom, it's cups/water, wands/fire, swords/air, and pentacles/earth. The designs in the middle (excluding the very centre one - I'll elaborate on that in a bit) are, left to right, the moon, the star, the earth, and the sun. The symbol in the very centre is my own personal symbol, which I was shown in late December last year. I recommend that every witch try to find or come up with their own personal symbol, as knowing it lends a great amount of power to any of her workings.
Anyhoops, on the the main event! As mentioned in the introductory post, I'll do a twelve card reading, one card for every zodiac sign, and for each card I'll write an interpretation and prediction for the week to come.
A quick five minutes are taken to sit, lay out my altar cloth, light some incense. I chose cedarwood incense for today, because the smoke of cedarwood is purifying (which makes it good for clearing cards), and, when burned, it promotes psychism (which makes it excellent for readings)*. I usually shuffle my cards in two stages; clearing the cards, then setting the intention of the reading. Clearing cards is rather simple, but almost every witch or psychic I know has a different process for it, so I'll just describe mine. After shuffling the deck for a few minutes, while keeping my mind clear and focusing on nothing as much as I can, I knock my cards, blow through my cards, then spread them out and hold them in the incense smoke for a bit to purify them, after which I cut the deck, shuffle them together, and then move on the stage two. This stage is literally just shuffling the deck while focusing solely on the intention of my reading until my gut/intuition/higher self/whatever you want to call it tells me that the cards are ready to be laid out.
The layout of the cards for this reading is such:
Yes, I'm aware that date-wise this order is all over the place. I organized them by element, and placed the cards on the corresponding quadrant of my altar cloth. In any case, the cards themselves fell thus:
So now let's get to the interpretations.
Pisces ♓ (February 19 - March 20): Three of cups
This is the card of friendship and fun! You've got great friends, Pisces, and this week will highlight that. There may possibly be an event coming up this week, a party or celebration of some kind perhaps, or even just plans to spend time together, grab a coffee or go see a movie together. If not, then perhaps this week is the time to schedule something, reach out to the people you love and rely on and set something up, even if it's something virtual. Have a Netflix party!
Cancer ♋ (June 21 - July 22): The Devil
I won't mince words here, Cancer; you've got some bad habits, and this week might be especially hard for you to resist temptation. Some of the vices or addictions that you may or may not have been recently trying to break away from might make an appearance, and it'll be up to you to summon up the strength to resist them. Be strong, Cancer; this is just one week, and you've gotten through plenty already. Keep your chin up, keep an even head, and keep going. I believe in you.
Scorpio ♏ (October 23 - November 21): Queen of wands
The queen of wands is a card that speaks to passion, charisma and positivity. Everyone loves you this week, Scorpio; you're truly being your best self, inspiring those around you, and generally have everything handled. This will be a good week for you Scorpio, so long as you remember to keep up that positive attitude and keep your heart open to those around you. Keep up the good work and praise and accolades are sure to be heaped upon you!
Aries ♈ (March 21 - April 19) Queen of swords (reversed)
The queen of swords reversed warns against being too direct, sharp, or cold in your communication. This week you might find yourself having some difficulties in communicating with others; perhaps either you or the people around you will be strangely aloof, argumentative, or even harsh to others. It's important this week to take a step back, take a deep breath, and maybe put yourself in others' shoes for a time. Getting your point across is important, yes, but being right at all costs, at the expense of others' feelings, may land your with more grudges and perhaps even lose you some friends this week. Keep cool, Aries, and learn to let go.
Leo ♌ (July 23 - August 22): seven of cups (reversed)
There is a choice in your life, Leo, either before you or behind you. The 7 of cups reversed has two potential meanings; either you've finally overcome some indecision that you've been suffering recently, and are finally ready to make a decision, or there's a choice you know you have to make that you've been putting off, desperately hoping the situation will resolve itself. In any case, Leo, my advice for this week would be to just square your shoulders and choose; on some level you already know what the right decision is, and you've just gotta have faith in yourself. You are bright, strong, and phenomenal, Leo, and you've got this!
Sagittarius ♐ (November 22 - December 21): five of cups
Ouch. You okay, Sagittarius? You've clearly been through a lot recently, and you're feeling... less than ideal. Take the time you need to recover this week, Sagittarius, and to heal. I would suggest focusing on self-care; watch a Ghibli movie, eat some ice cream, go to a spa if you've got the funds to do so. Let your heart heal and try to learn to love life again. There are still things in your life worth fighting for, love and hope and other positives, but it'll take time and effort for you to see those things. You're gonna be okay, Sagittarius. I promise.
Aquarius ♒ (January 20 - February 18): Five of wands
I won't sugarcoat it for you Aquarius; you've got some bad days ahead of you. You're coming up on a time when it'll seem that everyone and everything is against you, and you've got to put in twice the effort to make things work. Make sure to ration your energy this week; don't waste your attention on unnecessary stresses. You've got enough on your plate. The unfortunate reality is that sometimes nothing is easy, and it'll be up to you to find the perseverance you need to push through the chaos and emerge victorious.
Gemini ♊ (May 21 - June 20): The Hanged Man (reversed)
While the hanged man talks about sacrifice, letting go for your own growth and for the greater good, reversed it speaks of needless sacrifice and putting yourself in an uncomfortable position for seemingly no reason. At some point in the coming week you might find yourself wondering; Why am I doing this to myself? And it's a question you'll need to really ponder. The only thing holding you back from real growth is you, and the only one who can get you out of this situation into a better one is you.
Libra ♎ (September 23 - October 22): Two of swords (reversed)
This is the 'between a rock and a hard place' card. You're going to have (or perhaps are already facing) a situation in which you really have no good options. You're not going to get anything done if you're trying to figure out which option is the lesser of two evils, so to speak; carefully considering your options is wise, but you need to make sure you don't get stuck in analysis paralysis. There are going to be consequences for your choice, whatever you decide; at a certain point all you can really do is pick one and hope.
Capricorn ♑ (December 22 - January 19): Eight of swords (reversed)
Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. You must face your fear. You must permit it to pass over you and through you, and when it has gone past you will turn your inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing; only you will remain.
(Once again, if you recognize that quote, you've got excellent taste in books.)
This is the week you awake, Capricorn! This is the week you finally realize that your fear, your victim mentality, your feelings of helplessness are the only things holding you down. This week, try something different! Trust yourself, let your courage pull you upward and forward.
Taurus ♉ (April 20 - May 20): Four of wands (reversed)
There's something in the way of joy and fulfillment in your love life. Some kind of upheaval or uncertainty is heading your way, Taurus, that is blocking your happiness. Brace yourself, Taurus; you might get into a really nasty fight with your partner or one of your loved ones this week and it'll really throw things into disarray. All you can really do this week is hold on tight and try to ride this one out. You've weathered many storms, Taurus, and I have every faith you'll weather this one.
Virgo ♍ (August 23 - September 22): Queen of pentacles
This week, Virgo, you might need to be an anchor for your friends. In your friend group, you're the one that everyone goes to when they need help, or advice, or even just someone to vent to, and this week they're going to need you. Lend an ear, lend a shoulder to cry on, be the person they can lean on. Be the mom friend, and don't be afraid to take new people under your wing. Is there someone at work who seems to have been going through a rough time? Let them vent to you, offer them a hand to hold. Is someone in your family acting more distant than usual? Reach out to them, ask them if they're doing okay. Be generous with your emotions this week.
Hopefully this helps at least a bit. I do want to quickly reiterate the disclaimers that I outlined in my
